Step 01

Define a brand people understand

CUSTOMER

Know exactly who you serve

Where do they shop? What do they value? What problem, occasion or identity does your product serve?

POSITIONING

Complete one clear sentence

“We make ___ for ___ who want ___.” If the sentence is vague, the collection will be vague too.

PRICE

Set retail direction early

Work backward through margin, freight, duty, packaging, production and selling costs.

DIFFERENCE

Choose one strong advantage

Fit, fabrication, craft, function, responsible sourcing or a distinctive point of view.

Steps 04-05 · Material & surface

Give the product its character

Fabric & Yarn Library

  • Cotton, wool, viscose and blends
  • Jersey, fleece, structured knits, linen and denim
  • Gauge, stitch, colour, trim and finish coordination
  • Availability review before final approval

Embroidery & Craft

  • Placement and all-over artwork
  • Embroidery, appliqué, patchwork and layered texture
  • Motif scale and colour development
  • Approved sample retained as the bulk standard
Step 06 · Sampling

Fit before volume

Sampling makes silhouette, proportion, construction, material and finish reviewable before you commit to bulk.

  1. Prototype sample tests the shape and construction.
  2. Fit review checks measurements, comfort, balance and movement.
  3. All corrections are recorded in one dated approval sheet.
  4. Size-set checks grading across the required size range.
  5. Pre-production sample freezes the standard for bulk.
Never approve bulk production through scattered chat messages.
Step 07 · Commercial planning

Understand the real cost

Cost layer What it should include
Product cost Fabric or yarn, trims, labour, processes, finishing and wastage.
Development Patterns, sampling, courier and testing where required.
Landed cost Product, packing, freight, duty or tax, insurance and handling.
Selling cost Marketplace fees, payment fees, fulfilment, returns and marketing.
Margin Operations, future development, markdown risk and profit.
Contingency Revisions, delays and small unexpected costs.
Step 08 · Manufacturing

Move into controlled production

PRE-PRODUCTION

Freeze the standard

Approved sample, specifications, materials, trims, size ratio and packing instructions.

IN-LINE

Inspect during production

Colour, measurements, stitching, construction, surface work and workmanship.

FINAL

Approve before dispatch

Appearance, quantity, measurements, labels, folding, packing and cartons.
